Zentyal is a full-featured Linux server for small and medium businesses, that you can set up in less than 30 minutes.
In this example, you will learn how to add user to your network, then block social sites like facebook, twitter and pinterest.
Follow this step-by-step procedure below.
***Create Object with members****
1. Network -> Objects -> Add new
2. In the Name field enter an object name, then click Add button
ex. Group1
3. New object name will shown on the list below
4. Click on Members Icon
5. Click Add new
6. Enter name, ip address and mac address
ex: name: employee1
IP : 192.168.1.100
MAC : 00:01:AB:CC:FF99
7. Click Add button
Now we successfuly created an object with 1 member, it's time to create a filter rules on that object
***Create Filter Profiles****
1. HTTP Proxy -> Filter Profiles -> Add new
2. Enter filter name, then click Add button
ex. Filter1
3. New filter name will shown on the list (see above photo)
4. Click Configuration icon
5. On the Settings Tab -> Threshold
- This specifies how strict the content filter is.
- In this example select strict. so that user could not open restricted site.
6. Click Change button
7. On the Domain and URLs Tab
- in this tab we can specify the sites to allow or deny
- as you can see there are 2 checkbox under Domain filter settings
in this example i will checked thos 2 boxes.
- by checking those boxes we can control the user from browsing different sites
8. Under Domain and URL rules -> Click Add new
- Enter Domain or URL
- Decision: Allow or Deny
- as you see in this example i allow yahoo and google only, and block social networking sites (facebook, twitter and pinterest)
We already set our filtering rules to allow only google ang yahoo sites.
NOTE: HTTPS sites cannot be block by this filter rules,
****Access Rules****
In this option, we will assign our filtering rules to our object to make it work.
1. HTTP Proxy -> Access Rules -> Add new
2. On the Source Dropdown, select Network Object, then select Group1
- Group1 is the object we created earlier
3. On the Decision Dropdown, select Apply Filter Profile, then select Filter1t
- Filter1 is the filtering rules created earlier
4. Click Add button
*****Saving Change****
Don't forget to save or else what we have done will be lost.
